Monthly Report – Aug 2016

Summary of Aug 2016 –

August in the life of a comedian usually centres around the Edinburgh Fringe (I know it has done for me for the last 3 years). Sadly, I didn’t get a room / time which suited what I wanted to do. And not wanting to waste my time and efforts on show that wouldn’t work I ducked out and only went up for 10 days. Of course, that is the shortest story. I wasn’t going to go to Edinburgh at all until my friend Bec invited me to her wedding and Iain invited me to an industry party.

Knowing I wouldn’t be going to Edinburgh led me to push for open spots at all the “major” clubs in London in Jan / Feb / March time so I could “hoover up” all the spots in August while everyone else was away. Sadly, that (much like all things you get told which sound too good to be true) turned out to be a lie. I didn’t get any more spots than usual. Maybe I misstimed it all or maybe it’s that I’m not funny enough. Whatever the reason I’m here to tell you that you do not just get “tons” of spots because everyone is out of town. In hindsight I am glad I didn’t. I did a podcast Ariane Sherine (out soon) where she talked about her love of Britney and wanting to be a pop star with fans who would buy ‘anything’ she released. For me, that wouldn’t be making it on merit (as ‘yes people’ really annoy me). I’m paraphrasing her very well made point. But it made me glad I wasn’t just given spots because I was the only option in town – there’s something you won’t hear every performer saying.

Oh and I rerecorded my DVD. Which was a fun (albeit stressful) thing to have finally finished and in the can. Which reminds me, I still need to edit the damn thing.
